Orphalin Annie

I was having a conversation with a coworker of mine the other day about how our lives have changed since having kids.  She has a son around M. Power’s age and was expressing how overwhelmed she was by everything.  I smiled and nodded but inside I was rolling my eyes.  She works part-time, in the office (she at least gets to use the bathroom and get a drink when she wants), she is not breastfeeding, her husband is very active in caring for their child and I know they share household duties pretty equally, both of their parents live here and regularly watch their son so they can go out and do things, and she has someone clean her house.  A few days after that though I felt a little shamed when I met a friend’s sister.  This girl has 4 kids between 4 and 9, she home schools them, her husband owns his own business and being the sole provider, works long hours so she is with them alone almost all of the time.  Oh and this girl just qualified for the Boston Marathon.  Yeah……
